Who we are
Edgewise: Poker Trainer (“Edgewise” or “the app”) is published by Purpose Brands (“Purpose Brands”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are responsible for (the “controller” of) the personal data described in this policy.
This policy covers the Edgewise app for iPhone and iPad and this website, edgewiseapp.co. It does not cover Apple’s App Store or other services we link to, which have their own privacy policies.
Questions about privacy? Email support@edgewiseapp.co. Our postal address is 1309 Coffeen Ave, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA.
What we collect and why
We collect as little as we can. This table lists everything that leaves your device; each item is explained underneath.
| Data | What it includes | Why we use it | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Usage events | Screens and drills you open, lessons started and finished, onboarding steps and the options you pick, whether quiz answers were right, whether table hands were won or lost, time spent, settings you change, and steps in the upgrade and purchase flow | To learn which drills and lessons help, find where people get stuck, and improve the app | PostHog |
| Event context | Your skill level, whether you have Pro, whether notifications are allowed, days since install, number of sessions, whether onboarding is finished, and the kind of build (App Store, TestFlight or development) | To compare groups, for example how beginners and experts use a drill | PostHog |
| Device and app details | Device model, iOS version, app version and language. PostHog also receives screen size, time zone and whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular; RevenueCat also receives your App Store country | To make Edgewise work well on every device and to find bugs | PostHog, RevenueCat |
| IP address | The IP address your device connects from, which is sent with any internet connection. PostHog may store it with each event | Only to deliver each connection. We do not use it to identify or locate you | PostHog, RevenueCat |
| Random identifiers | A random analytics ID and session ID created on your device, a random anonymous ID created by RevenueCat, and Apple’s identifier for vendor (explained below) | To count installs and sessions without knowing who you are, and to keep Pro unlocked on your device | PostHog, RevenueCat |
| Purchase history | The plan, price and currency, whether a free trial started, and the dates and App Store transaction IDs of purchases, renewals, cancellations and refunds | To unlock and restore Pro, and for our accounting and tax records | Apple, RevenueCat |
| Support messages | Your email address, your message and anything you attach, only if you write to us | To answer you and fix the problem | Purpose Brands and our email provider |
Anonymous usage analytics (PostHog)
Edgewise uses PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the app is used. The app sends a short event when you do things like open a trainer, finish a lesson or reach your daily goal. For example, finishing a lesson sends which lesson it was, how many quiz questions you got right and how long it took. The list of events is fixed in the app’s code, and nothing you type is ever sent: the app’s only text field, the glossary search, filters terms on your device. The hands you are dealt and the actions you choose are not sent either, only whether an answer was right, whether a table hand was won or lost, and summary figures such as accuracy.
Each event carries a random identifier created on your device the first time the app runs. It does not come from your Apple Account, your device’s hardware or any advertising identifier, and we never connect it to your purchase ID or to anything that identifies you. Deleting the app deletes it, and reinstalling creates a new one.
We have set PostHog up for anonymous product analytics only:
- Only the app’s own events. No automatic recording of taps, screens or app launches.
- No session recording, surveys or feature flags.
- No profiles. Events are never attached to a named person or user profile.
- No location. The app tells PostHog not to work out your location from your IP address.
As with any internet connection, sending events reveals your IP address to PostHog, and PostHog may store it with each event. We do not use IP addresses to identify or locate you. Our analytics data is hosted in PostHog’s United States region.
Analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Data → Share anonymous usage data (Settings is the gear icon on the Train tab). When you switch it off, the app sends one final event recording that you did so, then stops sending events. Our own development and test builds label their events so we can leave them out of our numbers, and automated tests never send any.
Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
Apple processes every payment through your Apple Account. Apple does not give us your name, email address, payment card or billing address.
We use RevenueCat to manage the Edgewise Pro subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase. RevenueCat checks your App Store transactions for Edgewise and tells the app whether Pro is active, so it can unlock features, restore purchases and handle renewals, cancellations and refunds. You never sign in: RevenueCat identifies the app on your device by a random anonymous ID that it creates, and receives the App Store transaction details for Edgewise along with the device and app details listed above. Like any server, RevenueCat also receives your IP address with each connection.
RevenueCat’s software also sends Apple’s identifier for vendor: a code iOS gives each app developer, which is the same across one developer’s apps on a device. It is not the advertising identifier (IDFA), it cannot be used to recognise you in other companies’ apps, and iOS resets it when you remove all of our apps from the device.
Apple links App Store purchases to your Apple Account, which is how Restore Purchases works after you reinstall the app or move to a new device. In RevenueCat we can see purchase records against the anonymous ID (for example, “started a yearly trial on this date”), which helps us answer support questions and understand sales. We do not use purchase data for advertising.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Edgewise can show a daily training reminder at a time you choose, and a reminder two days before a free trial ends. Both are scheduled on your device by iOS. Edgewise has no push notification server, so we cannot send you notifications and we never receive a notification token. Usage analytics records whether notifications are allowed, the hour you choose for the daily reminder, and when a reminder is opened.
What stays on your device
Your full training history (the hands you were dealt, the actions you chose and how each was graded), your table results, lesson progress and streaks are kept on your device. We never upload that history and cannot access it; usage analytics includes only the summaries described above, such as your accuracy on a screen or that you finished a lesson. Your settings are stored on your device too. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, iOS includes this data in your backup; those backups are controlled by you and Apple, and we cannot access them.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any attachments, such as screenshots. We use them only to help you and to keep a record of the conversation.
What we don’t collect
- No account, name, phone number or postal address, and no email address unless you write to us.
- No advertising, no advertising identifier (IDFA) and no ad networks. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, which is why Edgewise never asks for permission to track.
- No location, precise or approximate.
- No contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health or fitness data.
- No payment card or bank details. Apple handles payment.
- No crash-reporting, attribution or advertising software beyond the services described in this policy.
- We never sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
This website
edgewiseapp.co is a static website. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising, and loads nothing from other companies: no fonts, scripts or trackers.
The playable games on the website may save your best scores in your browser’s local storage, under names starting with edgewise.best. They stay in your browser, are never sent to us, and you can remove them by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Like any website, our hosting provider may automatically keep standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to run and protect the service. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers below, which process it to provide their service to us, and where the law requires it. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- App Store & payments Apple Distributes Edgewise, takes payment, and handles subscriptions, Family Sharing and refunds under its own privacy policy. Apple Privacy Policy
- Purchases RevenueCat, Inc. Confirms purchases and Pro status. Receives purchase history, random IDs, device and app details, and your IP address with each connection. Based in the United States. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
- Analytics PostHog, Inc. Stores anonymous usage events, the random analytics ID and device and app details, in its United States region. Receives your IP address with each event and may store it with the event. PostHog Privacy Policy
We also use an email provider to receive and answer support email, and a hosting provider to serve this website. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, Purpose Brands or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to that information.
How long we keep data
- On your device: until you reset your progress, delete the app or erase the device.
- Usage analytics: in PostHog for as long as it helps us understand and improve Edgewise, after which it is deleted. We look at it in aggregate.
- Purchase records: in RevenueCat for as long as you might need Pro restored, and as long as tax and accounting rules require us to keep sales records.
- Support email: for as long as we need it to help you and keep a record of the conversation, then deleted.
- Apple and website logs: Apple and our hosting provider keep their own records under their own policies.
International transfers
PostHog and RevenueCat are based in the United States, our analytics data is hosted there, and our service providers may process data in other countries. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we transfer personal data to countries without an adequacy decision only with appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum where relevant) or the provider’s certification under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions. Contact us for more detail.
Your choices and controls
- Turn off analytics: Settings → Data → Share anonymous usage data.
- Notifications: turn the daily reminder on or off in Settings → Reminders, or turn off all Edgewise notifications in your device’s Settings app under Notifications.
- Reset your progress: Settings → Data → Reset all progress erases every recorded decision, your table results, lesson progress and speed-round best. Pro and your settings are kept.
- Start completely fresh: deleting the app removes all of its data from your device, including the random analytics and RevenueCat IDs. If you reinstall, new random IDs are created. Your purchases stay with your Apple Account and can be restored.
- Ask us: email support@edgewiseapp.co to ask what we hold, or to have it corrected or deleted.
Why we may not be able to find your data
Because analytics events are not linked to your name, email or Apple Account, we usually cannot tell which events are yours, so we cannot retrieve or delete them individually. To find purchase records, it helps if you send the date of your purchase and the order ID from Apple’s receipt email. We will never ask for your Apple Account password or payment details.
US state privacy rights
If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah or Virginia), you have rights over your personal information. This section adds to the rest of this policy.
What we collected in the last 12 months
- Identifiers: random app identifiers, Apple’s identifier for vendor, IP address (as received with each connection), and your email address if you contacted us.
- Commercial information: purchase history for Edgewise Pro.
- Internet or other electronic network activity: how you use the app (usage events), and device and app details.
This information comes from the app on your device, from Apple’s App Store (transaction details) and from you (support email). We use it for the purposes described in What we collect and why, and disclose it for those business purposes only to the service providers in Who we share data with. We collect no sensitive personal information and no precise location, and we do not make decisions about you through profiling.
We do not sell or share personal information, as California law defines those words, we have not done so in the last 12 months, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. Because there is nothing to opt out of, a Global Privacy Control signal changes nothing, but we treat it as a valid opt-out request. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
Your rights
Depending on your state, you can ask to know what personal information we hold and how we use it, to get a copy, to correct it or to delete it, and to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising and profiling. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email support@edgewiseapp.co with “Privacy request” in the subject. We verify requests by matching details you give us to the records we hold, and we respond within the time the law allows (usually 45 days). An authorised agent can make a request for you with your signed permission. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying with “Appeal” in the subject; if you are unhappy with the result, you can contact your state Attorney General.
EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection give you specific rights. Purpose Brands is the controller of your personal data. We rely on these legal bases:
- Usage analytics: our legitimate interest in understanding how Edgewise is used so we can improve it, using random IDs and with a simple off switch. You can object at any time by turning analytics off.
- Purchases and Pro: performing our contract with you (providing the Pro features you bought), and complying with tax and accounting law.
- Support email: our legitimate interest in answering you, or taking steps you ask for under our contract.
- Website logs: our legitimate interest in running and securing the website.
You have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you have given. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority where you live or work, or where you think a problem occurred; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office. We reply to requests within one month, which the law lets us extend by up to two months for complex requests.
Edgewise makes no automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. The grades you see in the app are training feedback calculated on your device, not decisions about you.
Children
Edgewise is rated 18+ on the App Store because it contains simulated gambling. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where they live (up to 16 in some countries). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example in an email, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Everything the app sends travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. Data on your device is protected by the iOS app sandbox and, when your device has a passcode, by Apple’s data protection encryption. Access to our analytics and purchase dashboards is limited to the people who need it to run Edgewise. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your personal data, we would notify you and the authorities where the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when Edgewise or the law changes, and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, such as collecting a new kind of data or adding a new service provider, we will tell you before it takes effect, for example on this website or in the app’s release notes. Earlier versions are available on request.
